Biography
American artist Cheryl Christopher's work relies heavily on examining social practices around clothing and fashion an systems of power that reinforce them.
Her work examines what motivates women to bind and distort their bodies for the supposed gratification of a typically male viewer. Christopher also dwells on the contentious idea that “feminine beauty” is achieved only through physical discomfort−the result of sacrifice or physical restraint.
Cheryl Christopher received her Master of Fine Arts Degree at the University of the Arts. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Rutgers University . Christopher lives in Cherry Hill, New Jersey and works in Atlantic City, New Jersey at the Tropicana Casino Resort.
